Financing supports Antheia’s domestic manufacturing strategy to onshore critical medicine supply chains

MENLO PARK, Calif., Oct. 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Antheia, the advanced biosynthesis company delivering 21st-century pharmaceutical manufacturing and innovation, today announced it has received a conditional commitment from the U.S. Department of War’s Office of Strategic Capital (OSC) for a direct, long-term loan of up to $80 million. The conditional financing, alongside additional private capital, would support Antheia’s U.S. manufacturing strategy, bolstering the company’s efforts to onshore production of critical pharmaceutical ingredients that are vital to public health and national security.

The U.S. relies on foreign countries for approximately 90 percent of its supply of key starting materials (KSMs) and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). This supply chain dependence leaves Americans highly vulnerable to drug shortages caused by public health emergencies, natural disasters, geopolitical tensions, and supply chain failures.

“America’s reliance on foreign suppliers for critical pharmaceutical ingredients has created ongoing public health and national security risks,” said Dr. Christina Smolke, CEO and co-founder of Antheia. “Advanced biomanufacturing offers the U.S. a direct path to securing these supply chains while regaining global leadership in a strategic technology sector. This conditional commitment from OSC marks an important milestone in advancing domestic technology to address our most urgent national priorities.”

Antheia’s biosynthesis platform and domestic manufacturing capabilities have been repeatedly recognized as priority technologies for building more resilient public health systems. To date, the company has received substantial backing – including $32 million in non-dilutive federal financing and equity financing from strategic government-affiliated investors – to establish pharmaceutical supply chain resilience and enhance national and economic security.

“Access to a long-term loan through OSC would give Antheia meaningful flexibility as we build our next phase of commercial growth,” said Eric d’Esparbes, CFO of Antheia. “Expanding our U.S. manufacturing footprint is central to our commercial strategy. This financing would allow us to onshore these critical supply chains efficiently while delivering on our commitments to customers, partners, and investors.”

“America should not have to depend on overseas supply chains for the ingredients that underpin our most essential medicines,” said Jeff Karras, General Partner at America’s Frontier Fund and member of Antheia’s Board of Directors. “Antheia is showing that American-born technology can become American manufacturing capacity. Strategic, long-term capital like this will help bring critical pharmaceutical production back to the U.S. while building the resilient industrial base our country needs.”

The conditional loan commitment specifies additional steps Antheia must complete before financial close, including satisfying various financial, legal, technical, investment, due diligence, and other requirements.
